Mia laughing session

Today Mia consistently chuckled and laughed, we were lucky enough to capture it on video.
Its kinda cute, this week she has also begun to lift her head up forward and fairly steady whilst sitting up assisted. Weirdly also, she's started to rub her gums with her mouth almost as if chewing on them. Everyday she seems to surprise as all babies do.
Here is the link to a video of "laughing Mia".

Xmas Dinner 2009

Mia's first Xmas was spent with the Ho family and Oma and Opa Sulu. We had a big feast, after slaving in the kitchen - Paul, Mummy J,Oma Rita and Belinda all had a course to do so it was a joint effort. A very satisfying feast - Mia as usual had her own feast of Karicare Formula which she still seems to enjoy with relish. She was also lucky enough to wear a new custom designed outfit made by MJ.

Here is a collage of he evening event.

Mia's First Early Xmas

Uncle Gid flew in from Darwin meeting Mia for the first time.
Another Big Feast was prepared to celebrate an early Xmas dinner inclusive of making up our own Xmas Stockings for the year, even Uncle Robbie was in town to celebrate. Opa Harris also flew down to be with the family. Kai-Ma also joined in the festivities, unfortunately Kai-Yeh was holidaying in Japan and couldn't make it. Oma-Rita was busy on the sewing machine and made Mia a lovely new Xmas dress for the night. Here are some pics ..I'm very proud of the home made Xmas stockings...(can't claim all glory for that one, of course Oma Rita did most of it..conceptually it was all my design..heheh)

Mia's first flight & meeting Tai Paw Paw

Mia experienced her first flight up to Brisbane to visit her darling Tai-Paw who was very ill but managed to smile so sweetly seeing her great grand daughter. Mia got to see Tai-Paw Paws beautiful paintings and we even managed to take a short video-movie which Mia can look back on when she is older. We do hope she gets some of Tai-Paw Paws artistic talents, just like Tante Son as well.

Mia 's maiden flight started with a whiney cry lasting about
15 minutes of uncontrollable crying, but soon settled.
Coming home started off much the same, with a total
snooze all the way home even during landing.
Will give her a break from flying for a bit me thinks...

Caught up with GA(Grand Aunty) Alice from the US
as well meeting Mia for thefirst time.
Also, Mia was able to meet GA Elizabeth
for the first time.

Just as we were leaving to fly back out, we caught up with Aunty Mel and Uncle Jono with darling Emma. However - we forgot to get the two munchkins a pic together - they will become penfriends in the yrs to come.

That concludes the Mia's maiden voyage to Brisbane at around 10 weeks old.

Tanta Son whilst we had her first stay in the
city sleeping over in our first weekend away
from home. Here is a pic of bath time as well.

Tante Son bought over some really cool tights
which deserve a blog update.
See here..

Like true Chan_Sulu style, of course we had to take Mia
for her first Bill's experience tucking into Tante Son's favourite

Week 8 immunisation shots

Young Mia got her whooping immunisation shots, plus a mirrored of other vaccines. She was very brave facing 2 jabs at the same time in each cuddly thigh. She cried in pain for abt 1 minute, then forgot about it shortly there after a cuddle in Oma's arms while Mummy J filled in paperwork.

Here is the before and after pics..

Visit to the OB and Paediatrician

Mia's 6 wk visit to OB and Paeditrician started off well, but on arrival Oma Rita says..."I think Mia's done a poo?". Mummy J says, "Can't be, as she did one earlier on at 3 am!". As we proceeded to take Mia out of the car, we soon realised her poo was all up her singlet , poor little chicken ...of which she never complained through the poo-ordeal. Her new pink bonds tights were carefully put away and she was redressed with the backup outfit..PHEW!!!

Anyway, here are a couple pics of the kind Docs that helped bring Mia into the world (Top = OB, Botto = Paedi). She loved our OB, but was not so keen on our Paedi as you can tell by the look on her little face..poor munchkin..

Kai-Yeh in the papers

Oma Rita came home one fine afternoon after being out in the city with Opa Harris, asked Mummy J "is Damo a model? what is his last name?", a confused Mummy J said..No and "Tsang". Oma Rita then pulled out a newspaper featuring Mia's Kai-Yeh.

Mia's Kai-Yeh is famous..he featured in the free city newspaper...Uncle Damo is FAMOUS! How cool is that!

Mia's Moon Yuet

Mia's Moon Yuet was a feast for the eyes filled with good company and good food. My Chinese ancestors would be proud of the effort we put in, and I think everyone went home with satisfied tummies...pity young Mia could not enjoy all the delicacies put out..

Menu included:
Ang Kueh cakes (red rice cakes) tortoise shape
symbolises that long-living creatures would bring longevity to the person eating it. We had to go rose bud as we couldn't find the moulds and we totally delicious
Fried Noodles that symbolises long life
Roast Pork - cos its yummy
Red Eggs -symbolising happiness & renewal of life
Mia Moon Yuet Cake (bees inspired by Nigella)-sweetness symbolizes a rich, sweet life, while the layers symbolize rising abundance for the coming year.
Prawns (just because they rock )
Spring Rolls (my fav)
Yee Sang Salad (total hit) - symbolises abundance, prosperity and vigor
Plus other bits and pieces...

Here are some pics of the day. This will
be one of many celebrations to please the
palate and fill the heart . Thanks to Oma Rita
who did most of the catering..such a legend..
if only I could be a great cook and Mum like her...

We also asked Amelia and Damo
to be the blessed God parents of which we will make it official at a Baptism down the track.

More photos...

Ang Ku Kueh turned out well too
- such vibrant colours...gorgeous
Noodles were yum....

Till the next event....

Pre Moon Yuet Preparation

Last minute decision on 29 Sept to do Moon Yuet
for Baby Mia for the weekend to accomodate guests .
Since I'm 6 or 7th generation Chinese (very diluted - chinois),
the use of the handy internet was part of research material
on what feasting foods were appropriate for the event.
We invited our close friends and family in Sydney ...
so Oma Rita and I prepared the foods the night before
madly but lovingly...here are some pics of the prep.

Some facts abt Moon Yuet :

The first important event for the newly born baby is the one-month celebration. Among Buddhist or Taoist families, on the morning of the baby's 30th day, sacrifices are offered to the gods so that the gods will protect the baby in his or her subsequent life. Ancestors are also informed of the arrival of a new member to the family. According to custom, relatives and friends receive gifts from the child's parents. The types of gifts vary from place to place, but eggs dyed red are usually a must both in the city and countryside. Red eggs are chosen as gifts since they are the symbol of change in life; their round shape also symbolizes a harmonious and happy life. Eggs are dyed red because red represents happiness in Chinese culture.
